Choosing the wrong tent size is one of the most common party-planning mistakes. Too small, and guests are squeezed between tables with nowhere to dance. Too big, and you pay for space you don’t use. This guide explains how to size a party tent rental in Dallas–Fort Worth for any guest count.

The Square-Footage Rule of Thumb

Tent sizing starts with how guests will use the space. These are common planning estimates:

• Standing cocktail party: about 6–8 sq ft per guest
• Cocktail party with some high-tops: about 8–10 sq ft per guest
• Seated dinner at round tables: about 12–15 sq ft per guest
• Seated dinner at long rectangular tables: about 10–12 sq ft per guest

Then add space for everything that isn’t a guest seat:

• Dance floor: about 3 sq ft per dancing guest

Frame Tent vs. Pole Tent

Frame tents are supported by an aluminum frame, so the inside is open with no center poles. They can go on grass, concrete or pavers using weights. Pole tents have tall center poles and dramatic peaks, but they must be staked into grass or dirt. For driveways, patios and parking lots, a frame tent is usually the answer.
